Systems Administrator and Programmer in the VM Mainframe Systems Group

The VM Mainframe Systems Group:

• Installs and maintains the VM systems at near 100% reliability and availability
• Provides 24-hour on-call support
• Monitors and tunes the performance of the VM systems
• Acquires and configures new hardware
• Works with VM users to resolve usage or application programming problems
• Works with both hardware and software vendors to install and/or troubleshoot issues as needed
• Works with Operations, Production and Business groups to ensure all processes run in optimal fashion

Key Responsibilities:

• Responsible for support of the VM Directory system (Dirmaint), the BusTech Virtual Tape Library System, Disk Storage Data Replication (Hitachi Universal Replicator)
• Design, coding, testing, documentation of utility programs to support the VM environment/infrastructure
• Provide 24-hour on-call support on a weekly rotation
• Configure VM Mainframe related hardware
• Develop and maintain system and configuration documentation.
• Other responsibilities may include:
• Installing and maintaining Linux under VM
• Installation and support of RSCS, TCPIP, VMBackup and other services.
• Installing and maintaining the Velocity Software suite of products (ESAMAP,ESAMON,ESAWEB)
• VM Performance analysis
• Debugging and troubleshooting VM failures
• Maintaining IDC modifications to VM and other OS Section software
• Participating in Business Continuity and Data Center Recovery test and planning activities.
• Keeping current on VM hardware and software via research, independent studies and attending industry conferences
• Continuing to learn new techniques and technologies to keep the systems running at peak performance and at the highest reliability

Skills and Experience

• 8-10 years programming experience including IBM Assembler Language experience
• Knowledgeable in VM and VM related products and languages including REXX, CMS Pipelines, RSCS, TCP/IP.
• Knowledge of mainframe hardware
• Experience with VM system administration and end user support
• Ability to work independently
• Good technical judgment and decision-making ability
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Knowledge of zLinux helpful.
• Project Management experience helpful
• Disaster Recovery experience helpful

VM System Programmer

The successful candidate must demonstrate a high-level of proficiency with z/VM and common program products such as Dirmaint, RSCS, and Operations Manager, as well as in-depth knowledge of IBM System z infrastructure hardware, software, performance tools, configuration and tuning techniques in a Linux on System z environment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are mandatory.

Responsibilities:

• Complete responsibility for the installation and maintenance of all z/VM LPARs.
• Installation and maintenance of all z/VM program products.
• Leverage z/VM experience to provide Linux and WebSphere administration staff needed guidance and support in System z virtualization.
• Provide support and training to other staff members on the use of z/VM and associated program products.

Qualifications & Skills:

• A minimum of 10 experience as a z/VM System Programmer.
• Through knowledge of TCP/IP networking, particularly in a virtual environment utilizing OSA2, OSA3, and Vswitch technology.
• Recent experience managing Linux servers on z/VM in a production environment.
• A high level of proficiency with system tools and utilities such as REXX
• Ability to work independently, follow established processes and produce quality documentation.

VM & VSE Systems Software Support Specialist

The Systems Software Support Specialist will be responsible for maintaining computer hardware and systems software and applications required for administrative computing. The systems are on a server running IBM VSE/ESA and z/VM mainframe platform that interfaces with Microsoft software based systems. This person will be working with a reporting system and other applications that require data feeds from the current IBM mainframe system. The person will also participate in a conversion of administrative information systems and data reporting. Review of applications will begin by April 19, 2010 and continue until the position is filled.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience working as an IBM z/VM and VSE/ESA systems programmer or z/VSE systems programmer
• Bachelors degree in Computer Information Systems or a related degree
