Monitor data reduction

ESAWRITE is the data collection component of ESAMON. By dynamically reducing raw monitor data into history files, ESAWRITE eliminates the need to write raw monitor data to disk or tape.

ESAWRITE was made a stand-alone product in response to customer requests and is a complementary product to ESAMAP. ESAWRITE controls the collection, manipulation, and reduction of raw monitor data. ESAMAP reports may be run at any time using the history files.
By continuously reducing raw monitor data to history files, ESAWRITE decreases DASD requirements for performance data by up to 95% without sacrificing performance information. The released DASD results in measurable cost savings and makes the disk space available for other applications.
Tivoli's Performance Reporter supports ESAWRITE history data as input, eliminating the need to create raw monitor data, and replacing the need to run a third product to reduce the monitor data.
