User Memory Analysis

Specifics - User memory analysis:

Once the system memory analysis has been done, the next step is to look at individual users/servers. This will show which users/servers/groups are using the most memory. Several screens/reports show user memory analysis below.
Note: Again, to standardize naming conventions, the word memory is replacing the word storage.

Helpful ESAMON screens/ESAMAP reports (further explained below):

ESAUSP2 - Shows more virtual machine main memory utilization information. Both screen and report samples:

?

  • Resident Actv - This shows the active resident memory for each active user.
  • Pages/Sec - This shows how much paging is occurring. If the number of spool writes for a userid is over 100, this is excessive and should be reviewed. The report can be helpful to show the daily top Classes/Users for each 15 minute interval.

  • ESAUSTR - Shows user memory utilization. Both screen and report samples:

    ?

  • IBR - This shows Invalid But Resident pages above and below the 2GB line. Watch for significant changes.
  • AgeList - This shows the IBR memory in the agelist. The agelist is used by the system's frame replenishment algorithm when memory is needed. Watch for significant changes.
  • PreWrite IBR/Agelst - This shows pages either already backed on disk (IBR) or pages already written to disk (Agelst). If there are high numbers in these lists, it would indicate a problem.
